Student visa:

The Australian Government provides an opportunity to all Indian students to study in the country but as a prerequisite, you’ll have to obtain an Australian student visa first to enter the country and start your studies. The visa you need will depend on the course level, the type of study you want to pursue, and the duration of the program. As an international student, you would require a student (subclass 500) visa, regardless of your field of study, the university you applied to, and the tuition fees.

Australia offers a Student Visa (subclass 500) which allows you to:

Other visa options

  • Visitor Visa (Subclasses 600, 601, 651): Allows you to study in Australia for up to three months.
  • Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417, 462): Allows you to study in Australia for up to four months and remain in Australia for the eight months following the completion of your course.
  • Student Guardian (Subclass 590): Relevant for a parent or guardian to reside with a student in Australia, where the student requires a guardian (i.e., the student is under 18 years of age). It allows you to study in Australia for up to three months.

Requirement for an Australia student visa

When applying for your Australia student visa to study in Australia, you will generally need:

  • Proof of enrolment (your electronic confirmation of enrolment eCOE)
  • A valid passport
  • Your visa application fee
  • Your Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement
  • Academic and work experience documents
  • Evidence of your English proficiency skills (such as IELTS test scores)
  • Evidence of financial ability (tuition fees, living expenses, expenses for dependents, return airfare)
  • Details of your health insurance policy (OSHC)
  • Passport-sized photographs

If you are under 18 years of age, you will also need to provide additional documents such as parental consent.
